Tarmac Challenge Results – June 18 2010
18th of June 2010 brought the first Tarmac Rally to be run by PRTech Racing. Held at Wakefield Park Raceway in Goulburn NSW, the day meant an early start for the predominantly Sydney-based crowd, but proved to be well worth the effort. As cars started rolling in from 7:30, a great range of cars turned up to compete, ranging from early 911’s, Turbos, to modern GT3RS’ and Targa Tasmania Rally cars.
With a total of 16 cars competing, it meant plenty of time for each competitor to get out driving in the various events of the day. The morning consisted of 3 smaller events; a traffic cone tarmac motorkhana, a hill-climb, and short-circuit sprint. Early event times were promising, showing determination between the drivers to outdo each other, each driver with a big grin on their face after every run.
Times from the morning’s short-circuit sprint built speed-groups for the afternoon’s full track sprint. Front-runners from the short-circuit sprint were Barrie Smith, Richard Perini, and David Withers, who stayed consistent in the afternoon, but the fastest consistent times in the afternoon came from Barrie Smith, Tom McGann, Matt McLellan and Richard Perini.
Overall standings were calculated from a combination of all recorded times of the day, rewarding consistent fast times on all events.
At the end of the day, the win went to Barrie Smith, followed by Richard Perini in second, and Patrick Garvan rounding out the top 3 for the day.
By all accounts, the day was a success, with many drivers looking forward to the next PRTech Tarmac Rally.
